Psalm 118
22 The stone the builders rejected
has become the cornerstone;
23 the LORD has done this,
and it is marvelous in our eyes.
24 The LORD has done it this very day;
let us rejoice today and be glad.The stone (Jesus) the builders (Pharisees) rejected became the cornerstone. God has given us Jesus, so there is reason in every day to rejoice and be glad. The builders also refers (I think) to everyone who rely and depend on their own efforts to build their lives (so it includes pharisees but also regular everyday people and Christians).
We try and try to build things to hold our lives together, but what humans make can only be so strong. The truth is only Jesus can perfectly provide that which we so long for. Love, acceptance, meaning, significance. What I really want/need is perfect love, and when I look to people and put that love responsibility on people, I always end up dissatisfied and unfulfilled because people cannot love perfectly. Because we are still attached to our flesh, we fight, argue, hate, spite, even about the dumbest things. People cannot hold my life together.
I’m glad today, that my cornerstone is Jesus. He is strong, rock-solid, and loving, even when my friends cannot be, even when I cannot be. He is always with me. I just want to believe.
